ADFS Extension

Web applications based on the Internet Information Services (IIS) server can be integrated with Axidian Access using the ADFS mechanism and the ADFS Extension component.

The ADFS Extension component implements a multifactor authentication provider for the Microsoft ADFS server, adding a second factor to the access gaining process. This approach makes it possible to integrate with target applications without modifying them: when logging in to an application, the user is redirected to the ADFS authentication web page, where the second factor is requested through the ADFS Extension authentication provider; after successful authentication, the user is returned to the target application.

Authentication technologies​

As the second factor, ADFS Extension supports authentication with the following technologies:

  • OATH one-time passwords: TOTP and HOTP
  • one-time codes sent by SMS and email
  • one-time codes and push notifications in the Axidian Key mobile application
  • a self-defined password

Where it can be used​

The ADFS technology is supported by Microsoft web applications such as Outlook Web Access, SharePoint, Skype for Business, and others.
